AID — It was hit or no hit with the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.
The Lady Vikings were hitting as they pounded out 16 hits while Brenna Tibbs and Addy Hawk combined on a no-hitter in a 25-0 run rule Southern Ohio Conference win over the South Gallia Lady Rebels on Monday.
After playing 4 games in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, last week and coming home to a field damaged by a tornado, the Lady Vikings regrouped and got the win.
“We didn’t know how the kids would react. We had a long week on the road last week and then came home and had to go through the field cleanup. But the girls responded well,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
Symmes Valley (6-5, 1-1) was led by Marley Ferguson who was 3-4 with 4 runs scored, a grand slam home run and 5 runs batted in. Savannah Mart had a big game as she went 3-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.
Tibbs was 1-3 with a double, Ally Haydon 1-1, Emma Ridenour and Desiree Simpson each 1-3, Addi Ridenour 2-3 with a double, Hawk 2-2 with a double, Autumn Justice 1-2 and Natalie Simpson 1-1.
Tibbs worked 3 innings for the win as she struck out 8 with no walks. Hawk finished and struck out 5 with one walk.
The Lady Vikings took a 4-0 lead in the first with 4 walks, a hit batsman, Addi Ridenour’s 2-run double along with a few wild pitches.
The lead went to 12-0 in the third inning.
Ferguson singled to start the inning, then came three walks and Justice singled home 2 runs. After 2 more walks, Ferguson had an RBI single and Mart a 2-run hit.
Symmes Valley finished off the scoring with 13 runs in the fourth inning.
Ferguson had a hit, then a hit batsman and a walk led to Hawk’s RBI single. Another hit batter and a walk set up a 2-run single by Tibbs and then Ferguson cranked a grand slam home run.
Mart singled followed by walks, Hawk’s RBI single, another walk and Mart had a 2-ru double. Natalie Simpson singled in a run and Addi Ridenour got a 2-run single.
The Lady Vikings play at Western on Tuesday, at Oak Hill on Wednesday and back home with Eastern on Thursday.
