Lady Vikings shake off slow start to blank Lady Bulldogs

AID — The slow starts don’t bother the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings. They just take their time to get going.

The Lady Vikings’ offense sputtered early but kicked into gear as they blanked the Woodridge Lady Bulldogs 8-0 on Saturday in the annual Valley of Thunder Softball Classic.

“We had to adjust to the pitching. They did a good job of changing speeds, but we were able to figure it out and finally got going,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Symmes Valley (12-1) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

Autumn Justice and Kaycee Thompson singled, Addi Ridenour reached on an error and Brenna Tibbs doubled for a run. Lindsey Freeman hit into a force play to score Ridenour.

The lead went to 4-0 in the fourth.

Emma Ridenour reached on an error, Natalie Simpson doubled and Justice singled in a run. Thompson hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in the second run.

Symmes Valley added 4 insurance runs in the sixth.

Alyssa Waugh singled, stole second and Simpson was safe on an error as the run scored.

Justice singled, Thompson was safe on an error to drive in a run, Addie Ridenour reached on an error, both moved up on a wild pitch, Tibbs was safe on an error to score a run and Ridenour scored on a wild pitch.

Justice was 3-3, Tibbs 1-4 with a double and RBI, and Thompson, Simpson and Waugh all went 1-3.Waugh had an RBI and Simpson doubled.

Brianna Landon was 1-2 and June Kaser 1-3 for Woodridge (3-10).
