POMEROY — Day one is in the books and there was a lot of movement toward the next level.
The first day of the Division 2 track saw several local standouts qualify for the regional track meet.
The top 4 finishers in each event of the finals advance to the regional meet.
In the boys’ long jump finals, Ironton Fighting Tigers Connor Lowe earned a trip to the regional meet at he placed third with a distance of 19-7.5.
The South Point Pointers’ Derrick Taylor took first place in the discus with a toss of 153-10.
The Fairland Dragons Tristan Daily was sixth at 133-4 and Will Callicoat seventh at 133-1 while the Pointers’ Owen Fredrick was eighth at 131-0.
In the pole vault, the Pointers’ Carter Smith was first at a personal best 15-feet. Second was the Chesapeake Panthers’ Corey Davis who also had a personal best of 15-feet. Fairland’s Conner Black was third at 12-4 as all three got a berth in the regional meet.
Ironton’s Landon Thomas was seventh with an 11-4.
The Fighting Tigers’ 4x800 relay team of Zane Dressel, Ethaniel Helfer, Anthony Bell and Bryce Martins was seventh at 9:13.59 and the Fairland Dragons team of Dalton Griffing, Mitchell Dunlap, Jonathon Nida and Jackson Milam ran a 9:18.19 time to place eighth.
In preliminaries, Chesapeake Panthers Cameron Burgess had the 110-meter hurdles time at 142 seconds.
South Point Pointers Elijah Wilburn ran an 11.17 to place second in the 100-meter dash preliminaries. Teammate Kamren Miller was fourth at 11.27 seconds.
The Pointers’ Joey Bloebaum at 22.84 and Wilburn at 23.09 were second and third in the 200-meter prelims.
In the girls’ shot put finals, three local throwers advanced to the regional.
South Point’s Savannah Perego was second at 36-feet, 2-inches, Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ Keegan Henderson was third at 35-6.25, and Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ Addison Maynard was fourth at 34.09.75.
Fairland Lady Dragons’ Avery Byers was sixth at 29-10 and Rock Hill Redwomen’s Abigail Payne eighth at 29-5.
In the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, South Point Lady Pointers’ Leila Hall posted a 15.25 seconds time in the preliminaries for the fastest qualifying time.
In the girls 100-meters, South Point’s Emma Layne had the best qualifying time at 12.33 seconds and Hall was third at 12.76 seconds.
In the 200 prelims, Layne had the best time at 25.38 and Hall was second at 26.54.
The finals will be held on Thursday.
