HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics announced on Thursday a non-conference football series with Missouri State for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Missouri State, who will become a new member of Conference USA after the upcoming 2024 season, will visit Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Sept. 6, 2025 and the Thundering Herd will play in Springfield, Missouri, on Sept. 19, 2026.
Marshall had previously played in Conference USA from 2005-22 before moving on to the Sun Belt prior to the 2023 season.
"Playing Missouri State, a brand-new member of Conference USA, should be an engaging series for us," said Christian Spears, Marshall's Director of Athletics. "They wanted to play Marshall and early on, we recognized their sincere desire to bring their team to Huntington."
It will be the first-ever contest between the two programs and it serves as a unique series between a former Conference USA member and a new Conference USA member.
The 2026 game will be just the second time in program history that the Herd has played a game in the state of Missouri.
The only other trip to the "Show-Me State" was a 1992 game in Columbia, Missouri where Marshall – then a Division I-AA (now FCS) member – took on the Missouri Tigers on Oct. 3, 1992. The Herd lost the game 44-21, but went on to win the 1992 Division I-AA National Championship that season.
