Marshall topples Trojans on senior day, 88-78

HUNTINGTON – The Marshall Thundering Herd closed out the regular season at home on Saturday night with a 88-78 win over the Troy Trojans on Senior Day.


The win also earned the Herd a top-four finish in the conference standings and double-bye in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.


Prior to the game, Marshall honored Taevion Kinsey, Goran Miladinovic, Andrew Taylor and graduate assistant Stephen Galgano as part of its Senior Day ceremonies.


Marshall (23-6, 12-4 Sun Belt) jumped on the Trojans early, using an 11-3 run las Taylor contributed four points during the scoring run.


Taylor scored a game-high 27 points, making nine of his eight attempts from the field, and added six assists.


Kinsey added 22 points and finished two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight. Kamdyn Curfman and Obinna Anochili-Killen each registered 15 points.


The Trojans (17-12, 9-7 Sun Belt) cut the Herd's lead to 81-77 with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. However a 3-pointer from Curfman ignited a 7-1 run by the Herd to closeout out the game and secure the win.


The Herd outrebounded Troy 40-32 and is now 15-1 when it wins the battle on the glass.


Kinsey sits at 2,570 points for his career. He now just needs five points to pass Skip Henderson's mark of 2,574 points for second all-time. Kinsey is also 12 made field goals away from surpassing Henderson's 1,000 made shots for most in program history as he has 989.


Marshall hits the road on Wednesday for one final regular season at James Madison.
