Mohawks advance to District Title game with route of Portsmouth

ATHENS — Northwest got three players in double figures on offense, a strong defensive effort, and the Mohawks routed the Portsmouth Trojans 71-49 on Sunday evening in the Division 3 Boys District Semifinals at the Ohio University Convocation Center.

Northwest advances to the district finals on Saturday, March 9, where they will face the No. 1 seed Wheelersburg Pirates at 4:00 PM.

Tanner Bolin led the Mohawks in scoring with 23 points and had 6 boards. Connor Lintz registered a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Logan Wolfenbarker chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Northwest fell behind 12-5, only to close out the first quarter on an 8-0 run in the final 2:22 of the period.

From that point, the Mohawks never looked back and dominated the game on both ends of the court. Offensively, the Mohawks shot 53.3% from the field and 46.2% from the three-point line. On the defensive end of the floor, they held the Trojans to just 34.5% from the field.

Lintz key the rout going in the third period with a score off the dribble to make it 41-23.

Bolin pushed the Mohawks' lead to it's largest of the game with a free throw to make the score 6-42 with 1:57 remaining in the game.

Deandre Berry got a double-double in his final game with Portsmouth, scoring a game-high 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Isiash Lewis added 8 points for the Trojans.
