LUCASVILLE — Kaden Murphy totaled four touchdowns and Kaden Turner added two of his own, as the Coal Grove Hornets routed the Lucasville Valley Indians 52-6 on Saturday afternoon.
Murphy finished the day with 168 yards on 14 carries and Turner ran seven times for 54 yards, as the Hornet offense amassed 433 total yards for the game.
Valley's only score came on the opening kickoff as Aiden Waughtel navigated his way to a 84-yard touchdown and an early 6-0 lead for the Indians.
But Coal Grove would waste little time answering with as score of their own, needing just eight plays to reach the end zone. Turner finished off the drive, pushing his way in from two yards out. Murphy ran in the conversion to give Coal Grove an 8-6 lead with 8:32 remaining in the opening quarter.
Valley (0-2) would put drive deep into Hornet territory on their next drive, but a sack on third down by Turner would halt the drive and give the ball back to Coal Grove.
From that point on the Hornets would pile up the yards and scores.
Murphy would score the next three touchdowns for the Hornets, with a pair of eight-yard rushing scores and a 69-yard touchdown reception from his quarterback Whyatt Mannon to give the Hornets a 30-6 lead with 11:46 in the second period.
Turner would add his second score on a 13-yard run and Murphy would score his fourth and final touchdown of the game on a 27-yard dash with just 11 seconds left in the half to make it 46-6 at the break.
The lone score of the second half would come from senior Gavin Gipson, who would cross over the goal line from four yards out to finalize the score at 52-6.
Valley's offense was lead by Carson Powell who completed 13 of 17 passes for 111 yards. Waughtel caught 7 passed for 77 yards.
Coal Grove will travel to face the Meigs Mauraders next Friday night and Valley will be at home against Piketon.
