NCAA Men's Top 25

After seeing five of the top six teams in last week's Associated Press Top 25 suffer a loss in a seven-day period, the reigning national champion UConn Huskies found themselves in the No. 1 spot in the poll for the first time this season.

The Huskies were previously ranked No. 4 last week and managed to not take a loss last week amid a chaotic week. UConn jumped Kansas, Houston, and Purdue to earn the top spot by receiving 39 of the possible 63 first-place votes.

Purdue, Kansas and North Carolina shared the rest of the remaining votes.

The Boilermakers had been No. 1 in the poll for four consecutive weeks before losing on the road to Nebraska on Tuesday. Media voters still gave Purdue 20 first-place votes on the week in total and 1,506 points in all, but it resulted in them dropping just one spot behind UConn in the Top 25.

Kansas held on to the No. 3 spot despite a 1-1 week with a loss at UCF and a win vs. Oklahoma. North Carolina vaulted three spots in the poll to No. 4 and Houston fell three spots to No. 5.

After a wild week of results, nine teams in last week's top 10 either move up, down or out entirely of this week's top 10. Likewise, twenty-four of the 25 teams in this week's AP poll ended up in a different position than in last week's poll in total.

The resulting overhaul, allowed five previously unranked teams to appear in the poll including TCU at No. 19, Dayton at No. 21, Ole Miss at No. 22, Iowa State at No. 25 and Texas Tech at No. 25.

For the first time since the 2015-16 season, the Gonzaga Bulldogs also fell out of the rankings entirely after dropping a road game to Santa Clara to move to 11-5 on the season. The Bulldogs had a streak of 143 polls of being ranked before dropping out.
