IRONTON — The St. Joseph Flyers offense acted more like a volcano in Friday’s game.
After a slight murmur in the first quarter, the Flyers erupted for 51 points over the next two quarters and rolled past the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 63-29 in a Southern Ohio Conference 1 game.
The Flyers led just 8-7 after the first quarter as Landon Rowe scored half of the points.
But the Flyers exploded for 28 points in the second quarter and held Clay to just 2 points and it was 36-9 at the half.
Wesley Neal pumped in 12 points and Eli Whaley scored 8 points while Zane Dressel hit a trifecta and scored 5 points to lead the onslaught.
The Flyers (6-3, 2-0) extended the lead to 59-23 in the third quarter as Neal scored 8 more points while Whaley scored 5 points and Rowe and Carter Johnson 4 each.
Eli Bailey hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 lints, Isaiah Whitt had a 3-pointer and Corey Williams scored 4 points for Clay.
Neal had another big game for the Flyers with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Rowe had 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while Whaley finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Williams scored 9 points for Clay (0-10, 0-2).
