No. 21 Indiana upsets Top-ranked Purdue, 79-74

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 25 points to lead the 21st-ranked Indiana Hoosiers to a 79-74 upset win over the No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday.

Jackson-Davis' performance added another chapter to his legacy with the Hoosiers and is now 16 points away from becoming the first Indiana player to ever score 2,000 and haul in 1,000 rebounds.

The fourth-year forward finished with seven rebounds and five blocks. Teammates Jalen Hood-Schifino scored 16 points and Trey Galloway chipped in 11 points for the Hoosiers.

Indiana (16-7, 7-5 Big Ten) forced 16 turnovers and shot 52.6% from the field against a Boilermaker defense that had held 24 consecutive opponents to 70 or fewer points. And did all this despite being out-rebounded 38-22 and nearly blowing a 16-point lead.

The 7-foot-4 Zach Edey helped the Boilermakers (22-2, 11-2) storm back by scoring eight of Purdue's first 10 points of the second-half and cut a 15-point deficit to nine.

He then added the final six points of a 12-4 run that make it 67-65 with 5:40 remaining in the game and Braden Smith's bucket with 2:03 remaining made it 71-70, but the Hoosiers would hold on to their slim lead in the final minutes.

Hood-Schifino capped the win off in style, breaking free for a dunk with 2 seconds left and the ensuing celebration as the fans stormed the court.

Edey scored 33 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Boilermakers. Fletcher Loyer added 12 points.

The win marked the fourth time the Hoosiers have beaten the nation's top-ranked team at Assembly Hall. The last time it happened was nearly 10 years ago, as they defeated Michigan 81-73.
