Ohio knocks off FAU, 17-10

BOCA RATON, Fla. — After sitting out last weeks game, quarterback Kurtis Rourke returned to lead the Ohio Bobcats to a 17-10 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday evening.

Rourke sat out last week's game against Long Island due to an injury suffered during their opening game against San Diego State. He finished the game 18-for-29 with 203 yards and a touchdown.

Running back O'Shaan Allison led the Bobcats on the ground, with 80 rushing yards on 22 carries, scoring his first touchdown since 2019.

Defensively, linebacker Keye Thompson led the team with seven tackles, including three solo stops. He also recorded one quarterback hurry and one pass breakup.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Owls cracked the scoring column first with a 37-yard field goal by Logan Lupo to take 3-0 lead with 6:54 left in the second quarter.

The Owls' defense would come up with a big play on Ohio's ensuing possession. Jarron Morris would pick off a pass and return it 72-yards to push FAU's lead to 10-0 with 5:12 remaining before halftime.

But the Bobcats would come back with an 11-play, 75-yard drive, that concluded with a 13-yard pass by Rourke to his tight end Will Kacmarek. Gianni Spetic added the extra point to cut the Owls' lead to 10-7 as both teams headed to the locker room for halftime.

Ohio (2-1) would finally grab the lead with 5:38 left in the third quarter, as Allison would score on a five-yard run. After Kasee's kick, Ohio led 14-10.

The Bobcat defense would make a big play of their own to begin the fourth quarter, as Tank Pearson would pick off a pass by Casey Thompson and give Ohio the ball at the FAU 48.

Ohio would cash in on the turnover, as Kasee would nail a 39-yard field goal to give the Bobcats a 17-10 lead with 5:26 remaining in the game.

FAU (1-1) would get one final chance to score in the final seconds, driving to Ohio's 26. But the defense would turn the Owls away to secure the win.

Ohio returns home to Athens to host the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium and can be watched on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
