Panthers Bounce Back To Knock Off Pointers

CHESAPEAKE — That’s what is called a bounce back win.


After a stunning 66-63 loss at Lucasville Valley on Saturday, the Chesapeake Panthers picked up their focus and intensity as they beat the South Point Pointers 53-41 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Tuesday.


Chesapeake (15-1, 9-0) remained tied for first place in the OVC with Fairland who outlasted Ironton in double overtime.


Chesapeake led 10-8 at the end of the first quarters Maddox Kazee had 4 points including a 3-pointer.


Ethan Layne and Ethan Hunt each hit 3-pointers for the Pointers.


The Panthers eased further ahead 24-17 at the half as Kaden Perkins scored 4 points and they converted 4 of 6 from the foul line including Drew Plantz who was 2 of 2.


Brayden Hanshaw scored 4 points as four different players scored for South Point.


Chesapeake took over in the third quarter as they outscored South Point 17-8 in the third quarter to open up a 41-25 lead.


Philip Thacker and Kazee scored 5 points each including a 3-pointer, Perkins scored 4 more points and the Panthers were 5 of 8 at the foul line.


Kolton Layman-Spurlock hit a 3-pointer and Hanshaw had a basket for South Point.


South Point tried to rally in the fourth quarter only to come up short as they outscored the Panthers 16-12.


Hanshaw nailed a pair of 3-pointers with Davon Lewis and Layman-Spurlock each making one 3-pointer.


Thacker hit a 3-pointer, converted 4 of 6 free throws and scored 9 points for Chesapeake in the quarter.


Thacker finished with 16 points while Kazee and Perkins scored 11 points each for the Panthers.


South Point (6-9, 4-6) was led by Hanshaw with 14 points and Ethan Layne with 9.
