Philadelphia mauls Giants, reaches NFC Championship game

KANSAS CITY — Jalen Hurts tossed two touchdown passes and ran for a score in first half, as the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the New York Giants 38-7 on Saturday night in an NFC divisional playoff game.

For Hurts he looked like hadn't missed a beat after sitting out two late-season games with a sprained right shoulder. He played in the final regular season game against the Giants, but the Eagles ran a vanilla offense designed to protect the Pro Bowl QB and gave little for New York to prepare for going into the divisional game.

Philadelphia (14-3) unleashed their offense on the Giants, as Hurts dazzled the home spectators early on with his arm and Philadelphia's offensive line pushed around the Giants up front. The Eagles finished with 268 yards on the ground as the line opened big holes for Miles Sanders and Kenneth Gainwell.

Hurts completed 16 of his 24 passes for 154 yards, including his 40-yard pass to a streaking DeVonta Smith on second play of the game to get the offense rolling early.

Hurts was flawless on the opening drive, completing passes of 9 yards, 5 yards, and a final pass of 16 yards to his tight end Dallas Goedert who made a one-handed grab for the reception.

He was just as effective on his second drive, completing passes of 12 yards and 9 yards en route to a 9-yard touchdown toss to Smith.

It was 14-0 in the first quarter and the Giants already needed a standing eight count. New York turned the ball over on downs on its first possession, and Daniel Jones was intercepted by James Bradberry on its second.

The Eagles built up a 28-0 halftime lead as Hurts ran in from five yards out.

New York (9-7-1) managed to score on their opening drive after halftime, but their offense couldn't do much else as they were held to 227 total yards for the game and 5-of-13 on third down.

The top-seeded Eagles will host the NFC championship game next Sunday against either Dallas or San Francisco.
