Portsmouth Coasts To Win Over Lady Panthers, Stay Undefeated

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Lady Trojans didn’t waste any time.


The Lady Trojans built a big first half lead and coasted to a 62-34 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Thursday.


Portsmouth remained unbeaten through 13 games and on top of the OVC standings at 9-0.


The Lady Trojans had three players in double figures led by Keke Woods with 21 points. Sienna Allen scored 14 points and Hayven Carter scored 13.


Although Portsmouth had a strong defensive effort, Kate Ball had a big game as she scored 21 points including four 3-pointers to lead Chesapeake (8-5, 3-5).



Portsmouth quickly jumped in front 21-5 in the first quarter with balanced scoring.


Woods scored 8 points, Daysha Reid had 5 points including a 3-pointer, and Allen and Carter scored 4 points each.


Ball drilled a 3-pointer and Clairynn Romans added a basket for the Lady Panthers’ total.


The Lady Trojans extended the lead to 35-15 at the half as Allen knocked down a 3-pointer and scored 7 points while Woods added 4 points and Carter went 3-of-4 at the foul line.


Ball had 4 points including a 3-pointer while Abbey Isaacs went 4-of-4 at the foul line for Chesapeake.


Both Woods and Carter scored 6 points each with Woods hitting a 3-pointer and went 3-of-4 at the line. Carter sank a pair of foul shots to go with 2 baskets.


Ball hit from behind the arc again and scored 7 points while Romans also hit a 3-pointer.


In the fourth quarter, four different players scored for Portsmouth with Savannah Cantrell scoring 4 points and Woods hitting a 3-pointer.


The Lady Trojans were just 2-of-9 at the foul line in the quarter and finished 14-of-27 for the game.


Ball scored 7 of Chesapeake’s 9 points in the quarter that included her fourth 3-pointer while Erin Hicks was 2-of-2 at the line.


Chesapeake made 9-of-10 free throws.
