Previewing Local 2025 Girls Southeast District Tournament Games

Division V Southeast District Semifinals

(11) Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers (12-11) vs. (2) Fairland Lady Dragons (17-5)

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 18

Location: Waverly Downtown Gym

Tip Off: 6:15 P.M.

While the Lady Dragons had their way with Ironton in both regular season contests, this Lady Tiger team is not someone to take lightly. This game will feature a lot of good guard play and possibly a lot of scoring from the perimeter.

Who to watch for Ironton: Lola Hankins, guard, senior

Hankins has been one of the main scorers all season for the Lady Tigers. Whether it's on a dribble drive or pulling up for a jumper, she can find the bottom of the net one way or another.

Who to watch for Fairland: Addison Godby, guard, junior

Godby finished the regular season averaging 11.4 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. The junior guard was very effective against Ironton in their last meeting, finishing with 15 points.

(10) Chesapeake Lady Panthers (11-8) vs. (3) Minford Lady Falcons (12-4)

Date: Wednesday, Feb. 19

Location: Waverly Downtown Gym

Tip Off: 6:15 P.M.

Minford comes in with one of the better inside games, which will cause problems for most teams in the southeast district. The Lady Panthers will need some early scoring and hope they can keep the ball out of the middle to begin thinking upset.

Who to watch for Chesapeake: Kate Ball, Guard, Senior

Ball has been one of the key scorers all season for Chesapeake, as well as help manage coach Chris Ball's (her father) offense this season. The senior guard has been under the weather recently, so getting her back to full strength would be a much needed boost to the offensive game plan.

Who to watch for Minford: Lindsee Williams, center, senior

Williams is an imposing player in the post at 6-foot-3-inches. Her presence alone will be a challenge for a Chesapeake team that likes to utilize their dribble drives. And on the other end, Williams will be a challenge to stop when she gets the ball in the paint.

Division VI Southeast District Semifinals

(7) Coal Grove Lady Hornets (11-12) vs. (2) Belpre Lady Eagles (15-9)

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 18

Location: Southeastern High School

Tip Off: 6:15 P.M.

The Lady Eagles come into the game winning 5 of their last 6, with their only loss in that stretch coming at the hands of Waterford. Belpre will look to use their height advantage to get easy points inside and push Coal Grove away from the net. The Lady Hornets will have get a solid all-around performance to take down the 2 seed.

Who to watch for Coal Grove: Jenna Anson, center, sophomore

Anson gives the Lady Hornets an inside presence as she leads the team in scoring (12.3) and rebounding (9.3). She will need to be the Lady Hornets answer to Belpre's height advantage.

Who to watch for Belpre: Gracie Bills, forward, sophomore

Bills leads the Lady Eagles in points (14.8), rebounds (10) and assists (3.) per game. Her height advantage down low has allowed her to get plenty of offensive boards and own a shooting percentage of nearly 50%. She's also been on a roll the last 4 games averaging a double-double.

Division VII Southeast District Semifinals

(7) Symmes Valley Lady Vikings (8-11) vs. (2) Green Lady Bobcats (19-1)

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 18

Location: Wellston High School

Tip Off: 6:15 P.M.

These two teams squared off once in the regular season back on Dec. 16. Symmes Valley kept things close, just trailing by 9 at halftime. But Abbie Knapp and Matti Hayslip wound up combining for 45 points in the game to propel the Lady Bobcats to a 67-40 win in Franklin Furnace.

Who to watch for Symmes Valley: Kaitlin Maynard, Forward, Senior; Kayley Maynard, Forward, Senior

Teams think they are seeing double with the Maynard twins who contribute points, rebounds, assists and defense to a well-balanced team.

Who to watch for Green: Abbie Knapp, Center, Sophomore

Knapp finished the regular season averaging a double-double with 26 points per game and 13 rebounds per game. While she is listed as the center on the roster, Knapp can be known to handle the ball at times to give matchup problems for opposing teams.

Best potential District Finals match-up:

Minford vs. Wheelersburg

Both teams split in the regular season and shared the Southern Ohio Conference 3 title. So a winner-take-all district final would just make this game all the more exciting.

Green vs. South Gallia

Despite both teams winning their divisions in the SOC this season, these two did not play in crossover action. Fans could possibly be treated to a showdown between two of the top low block players in the SOC in South Gallia's Emma Clary and Green's Abbie Knapp.
