Rams pile up points on new Turf

Updated: Nov 13, 2022

RACELAND—The Raceland Rams might already need to replace their newly installed artificial turf after one game.

The Rams burned up the turf for over 500 yards of offense as they routed the Russell Red Devils 53-14 in the Rail Cities Bowl on Saturday night.

Raceland quarterback Logan Lundy lead the way for the Rams as he compiled 277 yards passing, 92 yards rushing and accounted for 6 of the Rams touchdowns.

The Red Devils would strike first as quarterback Ethan Pack would throw a 58-yard touchdown strike Carson Patrick. Nathan Totten converted the extra point and the score was 7-0 with 6:15 in the opening period.

Russell threatened to go up another score late in the quarter as Pack would again hit Patrick on a 57-yard pass to put the Red Devils at the Raceland 15-yard line.

On second-and-goal from the Ram 4, Pack would over throw his receiver and Raceland senior Landyn Newman would cradle in the interception and give the ball back to the Rams.

Raceland would capitalize off the turnover and drive 80-yards in 7 plays. The drive would be caped off by a touchdown pass from Lundy to wideout Connor Hughes. The extra point snap was botched and Hughes was able to find Brayden Webb in the back of the endzone to give the Rams an 8-7 edge with :07 left in the opening quarter.

Along with his two scores, Hughes finished the night with 3 receptions for 129 yards to lead the receivers for the Rams.

From that point on, the Rams exploded offensively racking up more 45 points and defensively clamped down on Russell by just allowing 30 yards the rest of the game.

Lundy would go on to toss touchdown passes to Mason Lykins for 33 and 14-yards, Parker Fannin for 23-yards, and Hughes again for 66-yards.

The junior quarterback also added a rushing score of his own in the third quarter.

Jaxon Heighton got into the scoring column as well as he added a 27-yard touchdown run.

The final score of the night for the Rams came from backup quarterback Austin McKee who scored from 3-yards out with 3:24 to play in the ballgame.

Russell finally had something positive go their way when D'Marques Kershner took a kickoff 90-yards with just :55 remaining in the game. Totten's extra point finished out the scoring for the game.

The win for Raceland not only marks the most points scored in the rivalry and widest margin of defeat, but more importantly ends a three-game win streak for the Red Devils.

Russell currently leads the all-time series, 31-24-7.

Raceland (2-0) will face the Rowan County Vikings at home next Friday. Russell (0-2) hosts the Wheelersburg Pirates on Friday.
