Salyer strikes out 13 as Lady Dragons defeat Rock Hill

PEDRO — The battery was fully charged.


Fairland pitcher Kaylee Salyer and catcher Makena Black helped lead the Lady Dragons to a 6-1 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.


Salyer pitched a 2-hitter as she struck out 13 and walked just 2. Black was 2-3 with a double and 3 runs batted in.


Fairland (6-1, 4-0) had 10 hits with Ally Shepherd going 2-4, Hailey Sammons 2-3 with an RBI, Madi McKinley 1-2 with an RBI, Katie Dehart 1-4 with an RBI, and both Jordan Spencer and Salyer 1-4.


The Lady Dragons got all the runs they needed as they scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning.


Rock Hill (2-6, 2-2) got its run in the first when Charlie Long tripled and scored on Karlee Gillispie’s ground out.


Fairland added 2 more runs in the fifth inning.
