FRANKLIN FURNACE — Ethan Smith must like records.

In his last game, Smith eclipsed the 1,000 career points milestone in a win over River Valley.

On Tuesday, Smith added two more records as he led the Symmes Valley Vikings to an 85-57 rout of the Green Bobcats.

Smith set a school single-game record as he scored 53 points. In the process, Smith set a single-game record as he made nine 3-point goals.

Smith’s performance overshadowed a 36-point effort by the Bobcats’ Jon Knapp who made five 3-pointers.

Symmes Valley (7-3) took a 23-16 first quarter lead as Smith gave a hint of what was to come as he made three 3-pointers and scored 13 points while Bronx Carpenter added a pair of trifectas.

Knapp scored 9 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Landon Kimbler scored 4 points and Russell hit a 3-pointer for Green (4-6).

The lead grew to 43-30 at the half as Smith had 12 points including a couple of 3-point plays. Will Jones scored all 4 of his points in the quarter.

Knapp had another 3-pointer and scored 13 of Green’s 16 points with Kimbler adding a 3-pointer.

The Bobcats looked as though they would cut into the deficit right before halftime when Knapp hit a turnaround jumper to tighten the score at 33-26 and the defense got a turnover on the other end,

But just as soon as the Bobcats came up with the turnover, they gave it right back as Gradee Holland slipped in front of a bounce pass for a steal, then dished the ball off to Smith who drew a foul and converted a 3-point play to give the Vikings a 10-point lead.

Smith didn’t cool off at halftime as he scored 15 of the Vikings’ 21 points and the lead was now 64-41.

Knapp had 6 points as he and Stapleton each hit 3-pointers.

Smith finished off his night with 13 points in the fourth quarter as he made three more shots from behind the arc.

Key Roberts had 5 points as he and Noah Hutchinson each hit 3-pointers for the Vikings.

Knapp scored 8 points including a 3-pointer and 3-of-3 at the foul line in the quarter.

Smith was the only Vikings’ player in double figures. Kimbler scored 11 for Green.
