IRONTON — Oh what a quarter.
Fairland only outscored Ironton by 6 points over three quarters. But because of the second quarter those other quarters didn’t really matter to the Lady Dragons.
Fairland outscored the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 28-4 in the second quarter en route to a 62-32 Ohio Valley Conference win on Monday.
Fairland (14-3, 10-1) only led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Addison Godby scored 6 points and Ava Layne had 4 points for the Lady Dragons.
Emerson White scored 6 points and Lola Hankins had all 5 of her points for Ironton (6-11, 3-7).
But then came the second quarter.
Ava Layne hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10-points, Addison Cornell scored 5 points and Godby 4 as the lead ballooned to 40-14 as Fairland outscored Ironton 28-4 in the quarter.
Peyton Deer and Lexi McCall had the only two Ironton baskets.
Godby hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points and four other players scored in the third quarter as the lead went to 52-23.
White hit another 3-pointer, Addison Murray had 3 points and Jolee Hankins added a basket for Ironton’s total in the quarter.
Kamryn Barnitz and Siera Pemberton each hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Fairland.
White drained another pair of triples and Chloie Patterson hit a trifecta for Ironton in the quarter.
Layne scored 17 points to lead the Lady Dragons. Godby had 15 points and 4 assists, Isa Taliaferro, Cornell and Barnitz grabbed 9 rebounds each.
The Lady Dragons had 17 steals with Barnitz getting 5, Cornell 4 and Layne 3.
White hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points to pace Ironton.
