EAST LANSING, Michigan — C.J. Stroud tied a school record with six touchdown passes as No. 3 Ohio State coasted their way to a 49-20 win over Michigan State on Saturday at Spartan Stadium.
Asides from his multiple touchdown tosses, Stroud finished the game with 361 yards through the air and completed 21 of 26 passes.
His two main targets on the day, Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. had huge games as well. As Egbuka had five catches for 149 yards and a score, while Harrison Jr. 131 yards on seven reception and three touchdown catches
Running back TreVeyon Henderson rushed for 118 yards on 19 carries and touchdown before exiting the game with an apparent right leg injury in the third quarter.
Despite not having the service of receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and running back Miyan Williams, it was an impressive performance.
For the fifth straight game, the Buckeyes (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) scored on their opening drive when Stroud connected with Harrison Jr. for the first of his three touchdowns on the day.
The Spartans (2-4, 0-3) have now lost four straight after winning their first two games this season.
Stroud 's only blemish on the day was throwing an interception that was returned 32 yards by Charles Brantley to pull the Spartans into a 7-all tie.
Spartans quarterback Payton Thorne was 11 of 18 for 113 yards which included an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Reed to pull the Spartans within eight points early in the second quarter.
But the Buckeyes would go on to rattle off 28 straight points en route to the win.
The Buckeye defense made life miserable for the Spartans as they held their rushing attack to just seven yards for the game.
Harrison Jr. provided the highlight of the game on his final touchdown catch of the game.
The catch was a thing of beauty as Harrison Jr. was able to adjust to a slightly under thrown ball by Stroud. He managed to twist himself around, while leaping in the air, to snag the ball that was near his right cleat and get a foot down to make the reception.
Ohio State has bye this week but will be hosting Iowa on Oct. 22.
