Tibbs strikes out 17 as Lady Vikings advance to district Tourney

AID — Forget the old Sidney Poitier movie “They Call Me Mr. Tibbs.” Watch the new version called “They Call Me Brenna Tibbs.”

Unlike Mr. Tibbs who solved mysteries, Brenna Tibbs was a mystery to the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats who could never solve her pitching.

Tibbs threw a 2-hit shutout, struck out 17 and issued no walks as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings blanked the Lady Bearcats 7-0 on Wednesday in the Division 4 sectional finals.

“She was definitely on. She had everything working tonight. She had a good fastball and a good change-up,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Symmes Valley (15-6) will now play Beaver Eastern at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the district semifinals on Tuesday, May 14, at the University of Rio Grande.

The Lady Vikings got the only run they really needed in the second inning.

Savannah Mart led off the inning with a double off the fence and 2 outs later Kaycee Thompson doubled with Mart going to third and scoring on a wild pitch.

The lead went to 2-0 in the fourth.

With one out, Mart singled and took second on a throwing error, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Addi Ridenour.
