Tucker's FG lifts Ravens over Bengals

Updated: Oct 20, 2022

BALTIMORE — A 43-yard field goal by Baltimore's Justin Tucker as time expired gave the Ravens the 19-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night.

The win also gives the Ravens sole possession of first place in the AFC North.

Baltimore (3-2) grabbed a 10-0 lead when Lamar Jackson threw an 11-yard scoring pass to Mark Andrews in the second quarter. However,he would throw an interception to Cincinnati's Vonn Bell to halt their next drive.

Jackson had a rough night passing completing 19 of 32 pass attempts, but managed to make the plays that mattered, as he lead his team on the winning drive using his arm and legs.

Cincinnati (2-3) took advantage of the turnover and cut into the Baltimore lead on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Joe Burrow to Hayden Hurst. Evan McPherson would later add a 40-yard field goal to end the first half and put the score at 10-10.

Tucker added a 58-yard kick in the third quarter and another with 10:49 remaining in the game to give the Ravens a 16-10 advantage.

The Bengals had a chance to take the lead in the third quarter, trailing 13-10, but wasted that opportunity. The key play was a 12-yard loss on a reverse pass on second down. A completion on third down put the Bengals back at the 2, but a shovel pass on fourth down fell incomplete and gave the ball back to the Ravens.

But the Bengals would get the ball back 9:42 and make the most of their possession, driving 75 yards in 13 plays and melting 7:44 off the clock. Burrow and Joe Mixon would provide the one-two punch, as Burrow would complete 5 of 6 passes for 54 yard and Mixon would add 29 rushing yards on 5 carries to put the Bengals at the Baltimore 1.

Burrow would sneak in to cap off the drive and McPherson would add the extra point to give the Bengals the 17-16 lead with 1:58 in the game.

Burrow went 24 of 35 for 217 yards, along with a passing touchdown and one interception.

Baltimore would calmly take the ball on their next possession and move down the field to set the stage for Tucker's game-winner.

All three of Cincinnati's defeats this season have been on field goals on the final play.

This was also the 10th consecutive loss for the Bengals in a Sunday night game.

Tucker's winning kick extended his streak to 61 straight successful field goals in the fourth quarter and overtime. He is also 17 for 17 in his career on attempts in the final minute of regulation.

With the win, Baltimore is now 19-2 in prime time games at home since John Harbaugh took the helm.

Bengals will be in New Orleans next week to face the Saints on Sunday.
