CROWN CITY — Will Jones and Tanner Corn combined for 5 RBIs, Gradee Holland threw 6 solid innings, and the Symmes Valley Vikings beat the South Gallia Rebels 12-6 in a Southern Ohio Conference 2 game on Tuesday.
Holland gave up 8 hits, 5 runs with only 3 earned, struck out 5 and walked one. Luke Niece pitched the final inning.
Symmes Valley (9-5, 7-1) scored 4 runs in the first inning.
Luke Niece led off with a walk, Will Jones doubled him home, Tanner Corn had an RBI single, Randy Adkins got an RBI triple and Zander Hurn grounded out as the run scored.
South Gallia (6-9) got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Ayden Cornwell walked and scored on a double by Jahvin Davis.
The Vikings put the lead at 5-1 in the second when Zayne Wilson singled, Niece and Corn walked and Adkins hit into a fielder’s choice.
The lead went to 6-1 in the third inning when Mason Stevenson singled, stole second and scored when Braden Hankins reached on an error.
Symmes Valley pushed the lead to 8-1 in the top of the fourth on singles by Jones, Corn, Adkins and Stevenson.
The Rebels scored a run in the bottom of the inning on singles by Tanner Boothe and Noah Cremeens and Hayden Kemp’s ground out.
South Gallia rallied for 3 runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 8-5.
With one out Conwell singled, Brycen Stanley reached on an error and then Davis, Boothe and Cremeens all singled.
The Vikings got a run in the sixth when Jones and Adkins walked and Hurn reached on an error.
Symmes Valley put the game out of reach with 3 runs in the top of the seventh.
Holland singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Wilson. Jones had an RBI single and Corn double home the final run.
The Rebels got a run in the bottom of the inning when Davis walked, Gibson was hit by a pitch, Kemp walked and Ethan Moody was hit by a pitch.
The Vikings had 14 hits led by Jones who was 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Corn who was 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI, Adkins 2-3 with a triple and 4 RBI.
Stevenson was 2-4, Zayne Wilson 2-4 and both Niece and Holland were 1-3 for the Vikings.
South Gallia was led by Conwell who was 2-2, Davis 2-4 with a double and an RBI, and both Boothe and Cremeens 2-4 with an RBI.
