Vikings Fall to Fairview

WILLOW WOOD — Sometimes you get that stranded feeling.

Izzac Johnson and Tanner Reihs both had multi-RBI games at the plate and the Fairview Eagles took advantage of Symmes Valley stranding 10 runners on base to hand the Vikings a 9-2 loss on Tuesday night.

Reihs pitched a complete game to pick up the win for Fairview. The senior struck out 5 batters and gave up 2 earned runs on 10 hits.

The Vikings (5-2) seemed primed to blow the game wide-open in the second and third, loading the bases in both innings.

But Reihs was able to strikeout 2 of the final 3 batters to retire the side in the second.

However the Vikings were able to scratch across 2 runs in the third. Tanner Corn and Will Jones started the inning off with base hits, then Andy Strow was hit by a pitch to load up the bases with no outs.

Asher Maynard ripped a single into right field to score a pair of runs and cut the Fairview lead to 3-2. But that would be all the Vikings could manage in the frame after a couple of outs on a fielder's choice and a ground out to end the inning.

Maynard went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, recording singles in all his at bats and driving in both runs for the Vikings. The freshman has been on a hot streak, posting 7 hits in his last 11 at bats.

The Eagles (5-5) were able to capitalize on a pair of walks to begin the fifth, when Reihs singled in a run on a base hit and Eli Cummings scored a run on a sacrifice fly to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead.

Then Johnson helped add to the lead with an RBI-single in the sixth and a double in the seventh to score another and help seal the win.

Gradee Holland took the loss for the Vikings, pitching four and a third innings. Tanner Thompson came on in relief in the fifth to finish out the game.

Thompson went 2-4 with a double in the fourth and Corn, Jones, Holland, and Jackson Fields each recorded a hit for the Vikings.
