AID — Symmes Valley pitchers combined for a 3-hitter and the offense churned out 11 hits, as the Vikings rolled past the River Valley Raiders for a 9-3 win on Wednesday.
Mason Stevenson picked up the win, striking out five and giving up just one walk in five innings of work. Stevenson allowed just one baserunner in hit outing, only to later pick him off at first base to end the top half of the fourth inning.
Will Jones pitched a scoreless sixth inning and Tanner Corn pitched the seventh, striking out two batters and allowing just two hits.
The Vikings rattled off 4 runs in the bottom of the second, as Tanner Thompson and Zander Hurn had back-to-back fielder choice RBIs. Luke Niece had an RBI-triple and later scored on an error.
Symmes Valley (12-6) added an insurance run in the third with an RBI by Andy Strow to make it 5-0. Then padded their lead in the sixth, as Stevenson scored on a base hit by Corn, then a double by Aydan Taylor brought home Niece and Corn. Taylor later scored to make it 9-0.
The Raiders broke the shutout in the top of the seventh, with Young scoring on an error and a 2-out double from Litchfield that drove in two. Corn retired the final batter to close out the game.
The Vikings got big games at the plate from Niece who went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI and Corn who went 2-4 and a run batted in. Taylor went 1-4 with a double and 2-RBIs, Adkins 2-3, Strow 1-2 and an RBI, Hurn 1-3 and an RBI, Stevenson 2-2, and Thompson had an RBI.
