We're officially in the home stretch of the regular season.
And while things are beginning to get some clarity with the playoff picture, there's plenty of things that need to be settled this Friday night.
Many teams across our area have a general idea of where they're going to be playing next Friday. For example, squads like Ironton, Fairland, Portsmouth West, and Eastern Pike have pretty much locked up a home game for the first two weeks of the playoffs.
Teams like Portsmouth, Rock Hill, and South Gallia are most likely locked into a home game in the first round, but would be on the road the following week unless the lower seeded teams in the other games win.
Some teams like Chesapeake, Coal Grove, and Wheelersburg should be guarenteed to play week 11. However, they need to win to remove any doubt and improve their playoff positions.
And then there's the bubble teams of Sciotoville East and Symmes Valley. They're playing elimination games on Friday. Whoever can win, will most likely slide in as the past seed. Although there is a possibility that in the event both win, East would barely get enough points to bounce the Vikings out of the final spot.
It's important to preface this with a warning that none of these projections are set in stone because there are a lot of variables involved when it comes to the Level 2 points.
But in a lot of cases, many assumptions can be made.
For instance, the likelihood that Harvest Prep will beat KIPP Columbus is very high. And while they are currently sitting at No. 3 in Region 19, there is a much stronger chance they will still finish as the 5th seed because Barnesville and Columbus Academy are both undefeated and heavy favorites to win on Friday.
The Shamrocks are slated to pick up a lot of Level 2 points from Union Local and the rest of their defeated opponents this season. Same goes for Academy, who will big up a good chunk of points from beating Bishop Ready and have several defeated opponents pick up wins this week.
These projections are just that - projections. Most of these are based on some assumptions and "educated guesses" based on the most likely outcomes.
But this should give everyone a pretty good idea of what to look for on Friday if you decide to do some scoreboard watching.
So let's all settle in and watch the final shakedown of computer points and unexpected finishes in the rankings.
