MOWRYSTOWN — It was a pitchers' duel between Kaden Moonstone and Tanner Corn, as both hurlers threw complete games and gave up a total of 6 hits, but the Whiteoak Wildcats managed to scratch out a 3-0 win over Symmes Valley to snap the Vikings four-game win streak on Wednesday.
Moonstone went the distance for Whiteoak, giving up one hit, striking out 14 batters, and walking just 2. He also helped himself at the plate, going 1-3.
Corn delivered a solid outing for Symmes Valley, going 6 innings and giving up just 5 hits, 2 earned runs, striking out 6, and 4 walks in the loss.
Whiteoak got two runs in the bottom of the first, as Eli Roberts drove in Zander Rhodes with a single into left center. Then Roberts came around to score later on a 2-out single to center by Dakota Clift.
Tanner Thompson registered the Vikings (5-5) only hit to lead off the second inning, with a single to left field. Randy Adkins then moved Thompson to second on a sacrifice bunt. But Moonstone retired the next two batters to halt the scoring threat.
The Wildcats got an insurance run in the third, when Moonstone got on base with a single and later scored on an error to make it 3-0.
Rhodes finished 2-3 at the plate, Roberts 1-2, Dakota Clift went 1-3, and Jacob Kiley had the other RBI for the Wildcats.
